Makar Sankranti is celebrated across the country in different ways and cultural significance.
It is celebrated to welcome the season of harvest.
"Makar Sankranti" is considered as the first festival which falls in new year.
It is celebrated as following in different parts of India.
Delhi and Haryana- "Makar Sankranti" is celebrated as main festival of the year in thease parts of the country.
Punjab- "Makar Sankranti" is celebrated as "Magli"
Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh- It is celebrated with special Rajasthan delicacies and sweets called as "Sankranti Bhoj"
Tamil Nadu- In the states of Tamil Nadu, Day 1 is celebrated as "Bhogi Pandigai", Day 2 is celebrated as "Thai Pongal", Day 3 is celebrated as "Maattu Pongal" and
Day 4 is "Kaanum Pongal" Assam- It is celebrated as "Bhogali Bihu" as harvest festival in Assam
Maharashtra- In Maharashtra, It is celebrated as "मकर संक्रांती" where people exchange multicolored halwa, til-gul laadoo etc. Kite flying festival is also celebrated
with joy in various parts of Maharashtra.
Goa- Goa celebrated same as Maharashtra and Gujarat but womens there celebrate Makar Sankranti as "Jaldi Kumkum"
Gujarat- Uttarayan, Makar Sankranti festival in Gujarat. Kite festivals is the main attraction in Gujarat with sweet delicacies and exchange gifts with family and
friends.
Himachal Pradesh- It is celebrated as "Megha Saaji" as Makar Sankranti.
Uttarakhand- Celebrated as "Ghughuti" as Makar Sankranti.
Odisha- Makar Sankranti is celebrated by making "Makara Chaula" in the various parts of the state with joy and festival of new harvest of the paddy yields.
West Bengal- It is celebrated as "Paush Sankranti"
Bihar and Jharkhand- It is celebrated as "Khichdi"
Karnataka- In Karnataka, Makar Sankranti is celebrated as "Suggi" or harvest festival of farmers of Karnataka.
Kearala- In Kerala, Makar Sankranti is celebrated as "Makara Jyothi"at Sabrimala followed by Makaravilakku.
It doesn't matter whether "Makar Sankranti" is celebrated by different names or by following different traditional rituals what matters is that the whole Nation
celebrates the first festival of New Year in India with happiness and togetherness.
